All members please take note that the we have cancelled round 8 of this years Winter League the game was due to be played Sunday 9th Feburary Due to adverse weather conditions and with the forecast not due to improve over the coming days ,we can not be responsible for asking members to travel against official advice. Whilst I know you are all keen to get out there in the morning and a little rain will not stop you the winter league is about fun and having a laugh and I'm sure no one will have either tomorrow subject to the wind that is forecast.
A new date is being looked at for round 8 and will be confirmed Mon afternoon, I trust all members will be understanding and supportive in this course of action.
We are about to enter a period of very unsettled weather over the next few days. Storm Ciara will arrive late on Saturday and we can expect disruptive weather conditions for the next four days. The Met Office have issued a series of Yellow Be Aware weather warnings for the Scottish Borders area from Saturday right through until Tuesday for Wind/Rain and then Snow for high ground at the beginning of the week.
Saturday and Sunday
We can expect gale force winds of 50-60mph over both days and on Sunday for a period of time the winds will get stronger with frequent gusts up to 70mph this will be accompanied by prolonged heavy driving rain. On Sunday there is a low risk of minor flooding impacts from rivers and small watercourses. You can expect delays and difficult driving conditions on all roads with standing water and spray and strong winds especially for high sided vehicles.
Monday and Tuesday
Much colder air moves in and the strong winds remain with gusts still in excess of 50mph and this time we can expect snow with falls of 1-3cm above 150m and 5-10cm on ground above 300m. The strong winds could cause blizzard conditions and drifting of snow on exposed roads. These will be showers so the exact areas of the Borders that will be impacted are hard to predict at this time.
For full details of all the warnings please follow this link to the Met Office website
Keep an eye on local and national weather forecasts over the weekend as there is a chance that some of these weather warnings may be amended
In the interests of your own safety we would strongly advise anyone planning to play golf this weekend to check it is safe to do so before setting off.
Call the Pro Shop for advise 01890750004
Thanks and stay safe
Some of you will be aware of the work around the course to mend and construct new pathways for the golfers.
we would ask that during this period of construction , all golfers avoid any areas being worked on due to health and safety, these areas are rope off for you safety
Please note that the format for this seasons Club Championship
has been tweaked again following the feedback from last years players .
A lot of the feedback stated that it was spread out too far, over the 4 months and would be better if it was played much closer together also it was mentioned that it was always being held during the holiday season of June/July .
We have listened and as a result have decided to move the Finals Day to Saturday 22nd Aug 2020
.As in previous years the 4 Qualifying rounds will still be the best 2 scores from any of the 4 rounds listed below with the top 8 players going into the quarter finals
( Match Play Format
) on Sunday 16th August 2020 with the Semi Final being held on Friday evening 21st August
the qualifying rounds are
Q1 Davidson Cup= 19th July
Q2 August medal =02 August
Q3 Neale Cup round 1 =08 August
Q4 Neale Cup round 2 =09 August
We hope that members will show full support for this years Club Championship in 2020 by entering the qualifying rounds .We can only call it the Club Championship if you the Club Members participate .
all members should be aware that we at Eyemouth golf club have several deal going on with clubs to the south of us namely Blyth and Stocksfield Golf Clubs.
You can play both of these courses at members guests rates. so why not consider a little road trip and please feedback is always welcome on these deals its the only way we can judge if its good for the club or not .
This year the winter has so far brought us rain rain and a little more rain, however the course as we all know has been holding up extremely well with the great management of the greenkeepers and staff.
As we head towards the festive break we would like to note that all scheduled games of the Heathers Winter League this year are on time, and the 5 man format seem to be working for most, bringing out golfers who perhaps may not have bothered otherwise (always good to see more golfers in the winter).
The soup has also been welcomed by most after some of the cold starts so far.
The next few weeks see a selection of games for all on Sunday the 22 December the Christmas Quaich
and the New Years Cup
will be played on Sunday 29th December both of these competitions are open to all male and female
after all its Christmas .
The Gents Festive Open 4BBB
is to be held on Saturday 28th December and then the routine returns with the January Medal
on Sunday the 5th January 2020 followed by the Round 6 of the Heathers Winter League.
I would like to on behalf of Eyemouth Golf Club wish all members past and present a
Merry Christmas and Happy New Year for 2020.
